I have placed this
information on this page as most of us started at Lackland AFB Basic
Training and then went on to Air Police Tech School. Information has
been provided by Mike Clunis who went on to Safe Side. As stated in
his emails, think of the cost it took to equip JUST ONE person to do
his job from Basic to where ever>
Vernon, Sometime ago I
began working on Air Force issued gear that I had received while in

Vernon I was also issued mobility
gear with SafeSide as well. We needed to be issued our own
pick-up trucks to carry all this, but we did carry it and we did run
with it and we did repel with it and we did do expedient river
crossings with all this gear. This will conclude my memory of
issued equipment. Believe it or not I had assembled this list
and lost it due to a computer glitch, better known as a case of the
"Dumb Ass". It just disappeared off the screen, ever have that
happen? I hope you maybe able to use this for your site.
Can you imagine the cost of all of this equipment that each man had?
"mike"
Vernon, Can you just imagine,
what all of that individual equipment cost the tax payer? For
every airman, soldier, seaman and marine, it must have been
staggering. We saw a lot of
uniform and equipment changes. the phasing out of the 505 uniform
and the bush jacket. The phasing out of the Ike jacket, the
long sleeve 1538 dark blue shirt, the dacron uniform, the ridgeway
hat, the straight sleeve fatique shirt for the cuff sleeve, the
ridgeway was replaced by the ridiculous firm front utility hat, we
looked like duck hunters. The ridgeway was sharp. I also
had military creases sewn into all of my fatique shirts. All of
the fatique shirts I had with the name tags in white with black
lettering that read Air Police had to be changed to read Air Force
in blue as well as my name tags. The 45 got phased out, the
M-2 carbine went bye-bye, and who ever designed and adopted the M-16
ammo pouch should be given a whipping. When you had to dive into
the prone position, it was like landing on a concrete block.
The M-16 sling was always sliding of your shoulder, like a loose bra
strap, the butt was junk for bayonet training, remember
"Slash-Smash-Pin-Withdraw" the M-2 could hang on your shoulder
all day. Yes sir, we saw a lot of change
Sarge. We had snow, sleet and rain here
today with a icy three inch accumulation of crap. Behave, hope
you can use and enjoy the three (3) page list of equipment I sent
you.........................."mike"
